Invisalign and Teeth Straightening

Having straight teeth not only helps with being able to clean your teeth thoroughly and preventing dental complications, straight teeth can also can affect a person’s general well being, self-esteem and confidence. Our dentists and orthodontist and can advise you on the best type of brace to suit your requirements and budget.

Our orthodontist Dr Zeyneb Al-Shebib is a platinum invisalign provider and has many years of experience treating children and adults with fixed braces as well as Invisalign. She is happy to carry out teeth straightening treatments on children without needing extractions wherever possible. Often orthodontists request extractions in order to carry out orthodontic treatment, however, according to current concepts, it is better and quicker to expand the arch shape, and avoid extractions to straighten the teeth. As nature put the teeth there in the first place for a reason, where possible, non extraction orthodontics also gives the patient a more natural facial profile, and better function. There are however a limited number of cases where there is a skeletal discrepancy, and extractions are unavoidable to be able to give a good cosmetic result.

In addition to zeyneb, 2 of our dentists in Leighton Buzzard are experienced aligntech accredited providers, and we carry out a good number of invisalign treatments between us.

All of our Invisalign treatments include a set of 3 Vivera retainers, and also complimentary Teeth Whitening

How does Invisalign Work?

This type of brace uses a barely noticeable, custom-made, removable set of clear aligners that put gentle pressure on the teeth that need moving. As you work through a series of these, they gently straighten your teeth to the final position you would like. Teeth straightening has been revolutionised by this innovative process and literally millions of people have benefited from this simple treatment for a better smile.

First we take a scan of your teeth with our Itero 3D intra oral scanner. There are no messy impressions and the scanner ensures that we get a very high quality image of your teeth and dental arch. This is then processed to produce a 3-D image of your teeth, and can give a simulation of what your smile could look like after treatment. This can be used for your treatment planning and to make your custom set of aligners.

Whether your smile needs minor improvements or more extensive adjustments, Invisalign can certainly help. It is successful in treating crowded or widely spaced teeth. It can also relieve more complex issues, including overbites, overjets, under bites and even cross bites. In fact, your orthodontist can use these special clear aligners in all or part of many treatment plans.

Fixed Braces ( Brackets and Wires)

Fixed braces come in a number of styles and types and are suitable for children and adults, but of course are visible and cannot be removed for cleaning teeth.

A fixed brace is an orthodontic appliance which consists of brackets bonded on to the teeth which hold a wire which puts pressure on the teeth to help straighten them. Amongst teenagers fixed braces are commonly known as “train tracks” which can be used to treat children and adults alike. The brackets and wire are usually metal however tooth coloured options are now widely used and are getting more popular.

Fixed braces are one of the most effective ways of straightening teeth. They can be used in combination with removable or functional braces and while a fair number of patients benefit from more than one type of brace most will have fixed braces.
